You’ve almost made it out of the dreaded cold of winter and into the warmth of Spring! It’s certainly felt like an age following the Christmas festivities, but the new season is just in sight. Looking ahead to the Spring season we have decided to put together a list of our favourite walks, places to visit and events that take place in and around Wensleydale to help get you inspired and give you some great things to do when you visit us soon!
We’d also like to thank everyone who has booked with us so far for 2023 - we can’t believe how much of the summer season is already booked up! If you are still thinking about joining us during the holiday season we’d advise you to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
So without further ado here is our list of things you can get up to in the Dales this Spring!
Explore Woodlands in Bloom
Bluebells, primroses and an array of other spring flowers will start to sprout as the leaves also start to go back to their full green glory at this time of year. You’ll find the mix of delicate flowers and buds coupled with the streams of sunlight still able to enter through the trees so beautiful and relaxing. We particularly love to have a stroll through Freeholders Wood near Aysgarth and hear the birds chirping amongst the branches.
Spring Festivals
With the weather starting to look a little brighter, the Dales becomes a hive of activity at this time of year as things start to ramp up for some of the biggest festivals in the area. One of our absolute favourites is Swaledale Festival which runs from 27th May - 10th June 2023. From live music to arts and crafts and guided walks it's a fantastic live event with the most magnificent backdrop.
The Yorkshire Dales Food and Drink Festival is another wonderful event that runs from the 21st - the 23rd of July and is great for people of all ages with live music, celebrity chefs and delicious food and drinks on offer! Finally, there is an annual craft fair held every year over the Spring bank holiday in Hawes which showcases independent crafts from a range of local and regional exhibitors - great for a bit of gift shopping!
Look out for the Spring Lambs
Of course, there will also be plenty of small white fluffy animals you can see on your travels. It really is a lovely time to visit to see the first of the spring lambs leaping across the green fields in excitement and a sign of warmer seasons as their bleats fill the sounds across the countryside!
Now that just a taste of Spring in the Dales there's so much more to explore and if you want some more inspiration why not check out our list of local attractions?
If you haven’t booked your stay with us yet this season we are getting booked up quite quickly so we are advising anyone who’s thinking of visiting us soon to book early to avoid disappointment. We can’t wait to welcome you all this season! 😊
